Don’t you just love shoes? I mean, how can you not love something that pretty much always fits? It’s important to build up a good quality summer shoe wardrobe, other than the flimsy flip flop. Summer shoes are a different animal than a winter shoe. Your feet are more exposed and you need to avoid the dreaded flat shoe to give your feet some support. I’ve gone through my favorite shoes for summer and compiled them into one big article for you. I always head towards quality shoes with good support and a good summer sneaker as well. These shoes are all built to last and will carry you through many a summer, I promise. I’ve included categories for sandals, sneakers, espadrilles and I threw in a heel for good measure.
BEST SHOES FOR SUMMER
Sandals just scream summer and we are so excited to wear them after waiting many many months to let our toesies out. But, as I mentioned before, it is so important to get a good sandal with support. A flat flip flop is the devil’s shoe to many of us, with our arches screaming in pain. These shoes will all be comfortable and last for a long time.
Vionic has cornered the market as the podiatrist’s favorite shoe, all because of this signature trademarked Orthaheel. These shoes are like wearing sandals with arch supports in them. They come in many different colors, but get a good neutral or black so that you can wear again and again.
I love Pons because of their European look and great colors. The uppers are all leather and it has a rubber sole for no skidding. Best part is the back strap which miraculously keeps your shoe on without rubbing or causing blisters. These look great by the pool or with a cute outfit.
Here’s another awesome sandal that is so cute and so comfortable that you will feel like you are walking on air. With an adjustable back strap, plus a toe support, plus wonderful arch support, these are a must-buy.
Ladies, I’m here to tell you that Birkenstocks are not the Birks of our college days, clunky and big and…clunky. These shoes are still the fabulous, mold-to-your-feet classics but with very updated styles. These have straps that cross your foot providing a leg flattering look. And you will find that my goodness, they are still as comfortable as they were when you bought them the first time. Just don’t wear your socks with them out in public.
We all know how much I wear my sneaks, so I always transition from my heavier winter sneakers to summer sneakers. These are lightweight and sleek and some of them are even a little fancy (read down to see which ones!).
We all know how much I love the Vionic brand, so I kicked off the sneakers category with these black canvas sneakers. They are lightweight and have a cute braided trim that makes them seem more summery. Also to note, these run a little big, so you might want to to size down. This too has the magic Orthaheel® insole, but in the sneakers it can be removed if you don’t care for it.
Superga is a classic sneaker brand that has been around for years and for good reason. These are a classic summer white leather sneaker — they will last forever and their sleek, comfortable cut flatters everyone and every size. These are great sneakers to wear when it rains, because they are leather and not fabric.
Ecco’s shoes have really transformed over the years, going from very utilitarian to very chic. What they are known for is durability, support and comfort and now they have married these attributes with stylish design. Here is their take on the classic white leather sneaker that I love for the little brown leather accents near the laces and the heel.
Okay, this is the snazzy sneaker that I was teasing you about earlier. These micro sequins are so subtle that it would probably take a minute to realize that it was a sequined shoe, not a metallic leather. It’s a subtle bedazzling that I love and that looks great with just about everything.
I would be remiss if I did not include one of my favorite types of sneaker, which is a slip on. Just slip them on and walk out the door in a flash. And speaking of flash, I love the gold metallic snakeskin on these Vionic shoes. Comfortable and elegant all contained in one shoe!
Like sandals, espadrilles are truly a summer shoe, and seemingly timeless as I remember wearing espadrilles when I was a little girl too. Here are two great pairs of espadrilles that are casual and trendy.
These are beach shoes and they can get wet, really! Look at the name on the title: Water Shoe. But they do double duty, looking cute with your every day outfits and then you can go walk on the beach, literally in the water, with them. They are made of quick dry material.
Okay, these are NOT waterproof like the espadrilles above, but they are sure sharp, with the silvery metallic leather on top and cute rope trim. These are very lightweight and have a great cushioned insole.
You might need a heel this summer for something really fancy, perhaps fancier than the sequined sneaker featured above.
If you had to buy one pair of heeled shoes, one that would last you forever and be appropriate for all things heel-worthy, these are the heels. They are a little pricey, but considering how much wear you will get out of them forever, it will be worth it. Stuart Weitzman makes the most comfortable heels and with these ones in the perfect 3″ height category, they will be in your lineup all seasons.
