Mother’s Day makes me feel so grateful and blessed. I’m grateful for my own mom and I am blessed to be a mom of three awesome kiddos! Everybody in the family does their part in making the day extra special. Normally hubby does all the chores I don’t like doing and the kids shower me with hugs and kisses. Plus, I always get a surprise gift.
My favorite thing to receive are handwritten notes and cards. Now that I officially have two teenagers, the handmade cards are becoming sparse. Since I don’t get them quite as often, their value has increased and I love them all the more! Those sweet little cards are kept safely tucked away. I pull them out every now and then but definitely when I’m feeling less than my best at being a good mom. They remind me that I am loved, flaws and all. I think all the ladies in the world have those days whether you are a mom or not. Can I hear an AMEN!
All too often we focus on our failures and this is why I love Mother’s Day, as it’s a day to celebrate what makes moms across the world so special. Plus, a wise woman once told me that wherever I fail as a parent, God will fix. He’ll clean up any mess I make. WOW! What a peace that has given me over the years. So I’m sharing those words of wisdom with you, my village. I’ll also share a little about my treasure box and some fun finds that will make your momma smile this Mother’s Day.
I have a treasure box full of notes from friends, employers and mostly my children that I keep tucked away. It gets pulled out out every now and then but definitely when I need a little pick-me-up. I encourage my children to keep a special box full of treasures like these too. They might contain a note from a friend that contains words of encouragement or a wonderful review from an employer or a report card with uplifting comments from a teacher. The idea is to collect things from people that make an impact on your life so when life is not kind, you can go back to that little box of treasures and find a gem that will build you back up. I figure this will come in handy during teenage angst, both for mom, and teenager:) If you don’t have one, or your mom doesn’t have one, it would be a nice Mother’s Day gift:)
- Get a pretty box or wrap a shoe box with paper and make it your own.
- Write some things you love about your mom. It can just be words.
- Write about an experience you had with your mom that makes you smile.
- Put a printed picture in the box of you and your mom.
- Write about something your mom taught you that is proving to be valuable.
- Tell your mom about the treasure box and what purpose it should serve (so she can keep it up).
We’ve all heard it at one time or another: “It takes a village!” I didn’t truly understand that until I had children. Moms across the world know what that means because we all have needed help with our kids or with ourselves. Maybe we were sick and needed someone to watch the kids. Or, our kids needed someone else to talk to. How about all those times we needed help with carting the kids all across town. I love my village and the truth is that we couldn’t get it all done without the help of others. If you don’t feel part of a village, start one by finding a few like-minded individuals that will have your back when it really counts. If you are a mom, your village will wrap their arms around your little ones too. And if you aren’t a mom, you still need a village. Makes life more fun — hey, we are all in this together!
What to Buy Mom: Fragrance, Jewelry and Makeup
On to lighter things, since I hit hard with the heavy stuff first:) Let’s celebrate MOM. Creating a treasure box is definitely a win but if you want to add some other things to the mix I’ve got some fun finds that are sure to make her smile. You cannot go wrong with my three favorites: fragrance, make-up and jewelry. Check out my picks below and be sure to click on the pictures and the links to get to the sites to make your purchase.
My Fragrance Picks for Mother’s Day
One of my personal favorites is Jo Malone, a British lifestyle brand that joined the Estée Lauder Companies’ family of brands in 1999. They offer unique fragrances and luxury products for the bath, body and home. They encourage mixing unexpected combinations to experience a variety of scents. An added bonus is they wrap your products in beautiful packaging and are very generous with their samples. I’ve chosen some popular scents among the brand that I think you will enjoy. The Mac Daddy is the combo gift that is limited. They include smaller bottles that you can combine and gives you an idea of what Jo Malone is all about!
Never Go Wrong with These Other Scents As Well…
In addition, I’ve added two other lines that I LOVE including Narcisco Rodriguez’s For Her and Chanel’s latest release, Gabrielle.
My Make-Up Picks for Mother’s Day
I’m not one of those gals that stick to one brand when it comes to makeup and I bet you aren’t either. I pick the best from all the different lines:)
Bobbi Brown Eyeshadow Sticks: I love Bobbi Brown eyeshadow sticks. They are easy to travel with and are just a quick swipe of the stick. Love them!
Giorgio Armani Mascara: The best mascara I have ever bought is Giorgio Armani. Yes, a bit on the pricey side but totally worth it! No clumping and makes your lashes look like long legs. Va Va Voom!
Nars Multiples: These are a great travel companion. Plus, they do double duty as a blush, eyeshadow and lipstick. They last forever!
Bobbi Brown’s Crushed Lip Color: This lip color wears like a stain and lasts quite a while without drying out the lips.
YSL Lip Oil Tint: This is a great summer pick too. It gives a super glossy shine and the formula is like none I’ve ever tried. It is quite lightweight, but manages to provide a great pigmented lip. Any of these would be great picks for your mom.
My Jewelry Picks for Mother’s Day
I love jewelry by North Carolina native, Mignonne Gavigan. Some of my picks are on SALE right now. Score big this Mother’s Day with one of these beauties. Mom will love love love any of my picks. Be sure to click on the pictures to get to the site and purchase!
My suggestion is to create a treasure box first. Then, if you want to throw in some extra cheer, choose an item from one category (fragrance, make-up, jewelry) or pick one item from each category. Remember it’s the thought that counts. Mom is just happy to be celebrated. Speak her love language this Mothers Day. Check out a previous article on how to figure that out. You’ll be making memories that will go in her box of treasures! And if you are a mom, Happy Mother’s Day to you!
