The holidays are here and many of us are headed out of town to celebrate Thanksgiving. Some of you may be stressed to travel, seeing how it is the busiest travel weekend of the year. A good packing list and some travel tips will help put you at ease. Plus, we all need to focus on the good stuff this holidays season and not sweat the small stuff, right?
What to Pack for Thanksgiving Weekend
Before you even start packing, you need to focus on your travel bag. A good bag is key! My favorite travel bag is the MZ Wallace Kate Bag. It is hands-down my favorite travel bag. Not only is it perfect as a weekender bag, it is a great carry-on when you are on a trip with more luggage. It has loads of pockets on the outside so you can access items quickly. I keep fuzzy socks, a toothbrush/toothpaste and floss in my bag at all times.Throw in a book and a deck of playing cards too as that would serve as great entertainment if you experience any delays on your travels. It is currently available for $425 but MZ Wallace offers fun surprises during the holidays and you might be able to score one of their bags at a significant discount. I got mine at a great discount. Whether you are in the car or on a plane, I recommend dressing comfortably. A good pair of stretchy jeans and a sweater with low-heeled booties or slip on sneakers is perfect. Also, keep an extra layer handy — a jean jacket, cardigan or a beautiful wrap are all great options. My favorite travel wrap is by White + Warren! It retails for $298 but select colors are on sale now! They are perfect for football games, plane rides, car rides and bonfires. Plus, it adds a little something to your outfit. Local ladies, Peacocks Plume Boutique carries White + Warren! I’m wearing a version of my Thanksgiving travel outfit below. For details on this outfit, be sure to check out my previous post, What I wore to Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks.
Turkey Dinner Outfit
Let’s move onto the main event: TURKEY. Your family may dress up or down for Thanksgiving dinner. Every family is unique, so if you are an in-law or are not familiar with the host’s traditions, I would suggest you play it safe. I stick to comfy fabrics with a dressy style. I call it hybrid dressing and it really works when you are wanting to eat a big meal! Pack a pair of black pants (traditional) or black leather leggings (appropriate but not so traditional), add a sweater and some fun flats. Dress it all up with some classic or not-so-classic jewelry. I’m wearing the Mignonne Gavigan Madeline earrings which are available for $225 and this Lafayette Mesh necklace that retails for $298. Local ladies, Peacocks Plume Boutique carries Mignonne Gavigan and Lafayette. Some other great options are BaubleBar Pinata Tassel earrings available for $36 and Kate Spade earrings sold for $68. They are both sold at Nordstrom. Break out your treasured pieces and make holiday dressing fun!
I enjoy a little exercise on Thanksgiving especially after a big dinner. I’m not into a hardcore workout, but maybe some light yoga or a hike to enjoy the outdoors. Pack some leggings, a tank, sweatshirt and a light jacket (or heavy ) as well as socks and sneakers and you are set! If you can’t get outdoors or maybe the weather is just bad, let me suggest www.udaya.com . This is an awesome yoga website and they offer a 30-day free trial! After that, it is $12 a month. It offers all types/levels of yoga with a variety of instructors and time durations that are suitable for just about anyone. Nothing beats a class with a hands-on instructor but this website is a wonderful option when you can’t get away. Featured in the picture are leggings from the Girlfriend Collective. This is a great find, sold for $68. The pants are made from recycled water bottles and they mold to your body shape which means they become even more comfortable. (This company is up and coming and they have an awesome story. I encourage you to check them out!)
I love ending the evening with a comfy pair of pajamas. A fun set that is on my Christmas list is PJ Salvage Flannel pajamas for $62 available at Nordstrom. And, don’t forget a good pair of UGG slippers so your tootsies don’t get cold. I love these as you can use them for bedroom slippers and wear them out like normal UGG boots. No biggie if you get caught in your bedroom shoes!
The most important part of this list is to dress yourself with a grateful attitude. Enjoy time with family. Find humor in your day regardless of what it brings and extend grace to whomever needs it, even if that is you! Consider your blessings! With that being said, each and every one of you are a blessing to me.
Stay tuned in the coming weeks for some holiday wear options!
